The Vikings used their athleticism to get out to a quick early lead, then dominated the paint and the glass to defeat #2 seed New Berlin Eisenhower 71-55. Wisco forced 6 turnovers in the first quarter, held the Lions to just 17% shooting, and outrebounded them 14-5 to take a 20-6 lead into the quarter break. The Vikings closed the second quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 38-18 lead in the break. Eisenhower was briefly able to cut the lead to 12 in the second half, but Wisco pushed the lead back to 22 points in the 4th quarter before both coaches cleared their benches.
Wisco held the Lions to just 28% shooting for the game and cleaned the glass effectively by outrebounding Eisenhower 46-29. They also outscored the Lions in the paint, 44-18. Flavien Davis and Terry Nash paced the Vikings in scoring with 21 points apiece. Davis added 12 rebounds and 4 steals, while Nash added 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Chris Rotruck scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, while his older brother Tim Rotruck scored 8 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. And a host of players, led by senior JJ Krueger, played excellent post defense to limit Eisenhower's offensive opportunities.
Next up for the Vikings are the Crusaders of Catholic Memorial, in a rematch of a game played just after Christmas. That game will be played at Waukesha West High School at 7 PM on Friday, March 12.
