In a typical season-opening game--fast-paced and featuring alternately brilliant and sloppy play--the Vikings downed the Homestead Highlanders to start the 2009-2010 season on a positive note.
An 12-0 spurt in the second quarter broke open a game that had been tied at 22, and the Vikings took a 9 point lead into the locker room at the half. Wisco came out flying to start the second half, hanging a 12-3 run on the Highlanders to extend the lead to 18 points at 48-30 midway through the third quarter. Although Homestead would creep closer at various points afterwards, the Vikings led comfortably for the rest of the way.
Flavien Davis stuffed the box score for Wisco, totaling 25 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, 6 deflections, and a charge taken. Tim Rotruck added a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards, while Terry Nash paced the team with 5 assists. The Vikings shot 55% on the evening and out-rebounded Homestead 33-28.
Next up for the Vikings are the Suns of West Bend East, as WLT Conference play begins on Friday, December 4. Game time is 7:30 PM.
